STUDY IN COSTA RICA

Our beautiful Costa Rica has the highest level of adult literacy in Central America. The 1869 constitution made education free, mandatory, and tax supported. Costa Rica was one of the first nations in the world to make this provision. Concerning Higher educational institutions, Costa Rica has several state universities, and many private universities, and parauniversities. The government of Costa Rica designates about one-fourth of the national government budget to education.

Costa Rica has no army, it was abolished in 1948 and was introduced in article 12 of the Costa Rican Constitution. This allows for a legal economic support to education and health by not having to invest in weapons or military training. At the same time, it prevents Costa Rican democracy (one of the 22 older democracies in the world) from being disturbed by the military. Instead, all this puts us among the top Latin American countries in terms of human development and environmental performance.

In fact, when you study in Costa Rica you will enjoy a country which is trying to become a carbon dioxide free by the year 2020. This makes us pioneers in this respect and counts for rising living standards. It also creates new concerns over aspects such as ecotourism, sustainable development, etc. Keep in mind that almost one-third of Costa Rica is now under some form of environmental protection! Come to Paradise!"
